The Dragon of Hidden Treasures: Book 1 will take you on an adventure as Kathryn Kidwell’s trust in her social standing and political unrest leads her across China as she tries to escape the horrible warlord, Cheng Jiong. Colonel Wang Tyan-wei is commissioned to take the foreign devil away while Cheng negotiates a ransom for her life from her wealthy father. Neither expected to fall in love, something that would make life very complicated. Nor did this couple expect to see so much destruction just for their capture. Ty and Kathryn face unfortunate odds and keep their guardian angels busy while dealing with affairs of the heart. There are several spectators who are watching their progress closely since few endings will prevent a civil war. Juliann Troi based this novel during 1923 when both countries would find this union repulsive.
The Dragon of Hidden Treasures is more than a romance novel, it is a story that defies traditions, cultures, and prejudice. Juliann Troi brings her characters alive through this fascinating novel as they tip-toe around over one social issue. Her insight as to the delicate threads holding China together adds a unique plot to build this novel upon. I loved the strong-willed heroine, Kathryn, who faced danger, but her compassion for the people of this country won me over. I could not put this book down and was disappointed it ended without quite wrapping things up, leading no doubt to a sequel. This novel has an excellent plot and enticing characters. I eagerly await the second book in this series. I highly recommend this novel for those who love historical romance.
