The Drama Llama: A Story About Spreading Rumors & Gossip, written by Susan Bowman and illustrated by Poppy Moon, is a little story about a llama who likes to spread rumors and gossip. She has a tendency to stir up trouble among the other animals, who soon stop talking to her because they don’t want to deal with all her drama. Unfortunately, she becomes sad and lonely. When her old friends explain that she doesn’t need to cause drama and gain attention for everyone to like her, she learns a very important lesson. What is that lesson?
Children will learn an important lesson from this book - there is another way to gain friends, rather than gossiping and spreading rumors. Children and adults alike can all relate to this story. No matter our age, we have all come across a Drama Llama; some of us have even had our own Drama Llama moments. But, it’s safe to assume that drama llamas are not fun to be around. Even though the story could have been longer and had more details, the fun fonts and the colorful illustrations ensure that kids will love this book. What I also liked was that the second half of the book is filled with activity pages related to the lesson the story teaches, making this book very interactive. I can definitely see The Drama Llama being used in elementary classrooms. Susan Bowman did a great job, and I look forward to finding more of her books for my daughter’s growing library.
