Echoes of Destruction by W. K. Gorbet takes place in the mysterious world of Ettia, where a single moment changes everything. When a high-risk experiment involving the legendary CoreLight relic goes horribly wrong, it shatters more than just the powerful artifact. What should have been a breakthrough turns into a disaster that ripples across Ettia, stirring up old tensions and awakening forces that were better left undisturbed. At the heart of it all is Ikari, who finds himself caught in the fallout of the catastrophe in ways he never expected. As whispers of the ancient First Matter relics resurface, he’s drawn deeper into secrets tied to the very foundation of the world.
What really stood out to me in Echoes of Destruction by W. K. Gorbet was the scale of the world-building and the layered plot. The author demonstrates the time and effort invested in writing this novel. The lore runs deep with such detailed histories, mythical beings, and ancient relics that feel dangerous in a very real way. It can be a lot for the reader at first, but once everything clicks into place, the world comes together in an immersive story you can’t seem to put down. Ikari’s development is also especially compelling as his character feels shaped by the world rather than just moving through it, and the supporting cast each has their own motivations and morally gray areas. The plot unfolds steadily, building tension piece by piece instead of rushing toward spectacle, which makes the bigger moments hit harder. Overall, Echoes of Destruction is the kind of book that rewards a reader's patience, especially if they love intricate fantasy.
