Just like many other Ukrainians, Viktor didn’t think the Russians would launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine until it was too late. Viktor is ready to report to the nearest military station to fight for his motherland, but Igor, who is his father-in-law, convinces him to take his children out of the country. Luckily, they have relatives in the USA, and Anna will host them. Meanwhile, in the USA, Teresa, who is Anna’s friend, is about to find out something devastating that will shatter her marriage of many years. Is Lenny justified in leaving her? Back in Ukraine, the Russians are bombarding towns endlessly, and people like Maria and her daughter have to survive through the ensuing chaos. How will things turn out in The Dream Lives On by Valeriya Goffe?

The Dream Lives On by Valeriya Goffe is wonderfully written and offers a rare glimpse into the Ukrainian war. Such literature is a step in the right direction in ensuring that people know about the ongoing conflict, which many people seem to forget is still happening. This thought-provoking work shows one of the horrors and impacts of the conflict on the population, and I cannot help but wonder how justice will be achieved for the Ukrainians. Valeriya ensured all events and emotions were vividly described, which helped capture my imagination. The plot flows seamlessly, and the reader will also appreciate the excellent narration, which adds to the overall beauty of the book. This was an amazing read, and I look forward to reading something else by Valeriya Goffe.
