The Duchess Quest by C.K. Brooke combines action, adventure, fantasy, intrigue and romance into a delightful fairytale. The story starts with the monarchy of Jordinia being overthrown by rebels who want to start a new republic of their own. The royal family is assassinated with the exception of three-year-old Eludaine Ducelle, who is saved by rebel soldier Eco, who has a change of heart. Eco gives Eludaine to two women, Priya and Paxi, who live in a remote seashore town called Beili.
Priya and Paxi are two lovable characters who cared for the child her whole life until being confronted by three young men who suddenly come into their lives. The three men, Bos, Macmillan and Jon Cosmith, were given a mission to find the child and bring her to her uncle Hession Gatspierre, who was exiled years ago to the nation of Haffstrom. The characters of Bos, Macmillan and Jon Cosmith had unique characteristics that endeared me to them from the moment I started to read the story. Eludaine Ducelle was charming and likable, while her relationship with the three men and the adventures they shared made me smile as I turned each page. The main characters also met up with some fun, enchanting characters along their travels. This fairytale story brings the reader into a fantasy world full of adventure and discoveries, as the characters journey together from Beili to Haffstrom.
The Duchess Quest by C.K. Brooke is a wonderfully captivating story, filled with many surprises that will grab the reader's attention. C.K. Brooke has not only managed to create a story with vivid, descriptive scenes but successfully brings each character to life with depth and passion. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series and become absorbed once more in this fairytale. This is a very well written story by a talented author. The Duchess Quest is a definite must-read for everyone who loves adventure and romance in a fairytale land.
