A curmudgeon beats a full-house in Ma’s rules of Cajun poker, though Major Brad Stout, a US Army expert in radiation defense and eBay detective, isn’t certain why in The eBay Guardian by Charles A. Salter. Equally enigmatic as Ma’s rules of Cajun poker is the death of a woman from a radiation overdose through a horrible mistake at the hospital. Then a chemist working with a vat of plutonium dies from a pulse of neutron radiation while attempting an experiment. Added to this is the emergence of another curmudgeon which is as puzzling as the card game. As the military’s premier radiation defense lab and eBay detective begins to look into the mysterious chain of events, he comes across an eBay tracker who calls himself Curmudgeon Lee. The problem Brad faces is whether or not to count Curmudgeon Lee as a friend or an enemy. Forced to trust the mysterious figure, Brad and the Curmudgeon work together to uncover an assassination plot meant to take out a government official in a fake hospital accident. The biggest challenge is figuring out who, when, and where. There is a twist, however, in that unraveling this plot relates back to the secrets of the WWII diary from previous books of the trilogy.

The eBay Guardian is a stunning and breathtaking conclusion to the eBay Detective Trilogy. With plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader turning pages, Salter expertly weaves a tight plot of suspense and mystery. Profound, realistic, and brilliantly written; The eBay Guardian is a superb conclusion to a trilogy that is just a little bit too realistic for comfort.

The eBay Guardian (eBay Detective) - The eBay Detective Book 3 by Charles A. Salter is an exciting thriller. A cancer victim dies after receiving too much radiation at the Indiana Cancer Research Center, Indiana, Pennsylvania. It is followed by a string of deaths - a patient who has turned to alternative healing is killed by overdose of medicines and a chemist also dies after a sudden pulse of neutrons. Brad Stout, a radiation expert with the US army, is assigned to find out the causes of these mysterious deaths. He is asked to monitor whether terrorists can access these radioactive materials, which help them in making crude bombs. Brad encounters many suspicious dealers on eBay and he meets Curmudgeon Lee there.

The story is filled with mystery, intrigue, and suspense. The book is fast paced and keeps the reader on the edge. Set against a hospital background, the author has come up with an original story about the hazards we face in recent times due to terrorism and terrorist threats. We all live in a society filled with fear and uncertainty. These dangers lurk everywhere and they are unavoidable to a large extent. The book speaks about the deaths of patients due to radiation overdoses and the author has linked the theme well to terrorism.

The descriptions are detailed, clear, and crisp keeping the action alive. Who is Curmudgeon Lee? Is he a friend or a foe? Will he cheat Brad or will he help Brad in his agenda?

The eBay Guardian by Charles A. Salter is an interesting book about a regular guy, Brad, trying to fight an entire terrorist organization. Brad Stout is a major in the United States Army, an expert in radiation defense. His assignment is to monitor the online sales of radioactive materials. He carefully watches eBay for activity involving materials needed to make dirty bombs. Brad has had dealings with the terrorist group Brood in the past and he once again finds himself embroiled in their plots. When Curmudgeon Lee visits one evening, they form an alliance, but Brad is not one hundred percent sure which side Lee is really on. The two men and Brad’s Cajun father-in-law set out to stop the terrorists from using the radiation to do any more damage. They encounter several battles with several different groups before the battle is over.

Charles A. Salter has written a book that gave me a lot to think about. Does this really happen in my world and are there brave men like Brad and Curmudgeon to protect me? The eBay Guardian is book number three in the eBay Detective Book series. I did not read one or two yet and I think that might have made this book a little more exciting, but it did not take away anything from the story and the book can easily be read on its own. If you enjoy thrillers mixed with terrorists, this is a book you will not want to pass by. The eBay Guardian is 208 pages of fast action and excitement.
