Author Biography

MELBOURNE, Australia – Nicoletta Glod marks her entry into the publishing scene with the launch of “The Edge of War and Love” (published by Xlibris AU). This literary work seamlessly blends elements of diplomacy, action, and profound emotional connections against the ongoing Ukraine/Russia conflict and NATO border incidents.
The narrative unfolds as a riveting tale of tension, espionage, and daring missions. What distinguishes this work extends beyond its heart-pounding action sequences. Glod, drawing from her Romanian cultural background and experiences in naval engineering, seeks to infuse an authentic touch into the narrative. This authenticity allows readers to forge deep connections with the characters and immerse themselves in their world.

Reflecting on her debut work, Glod expresses, "This book invites readers on a gripping journey, not merely defined by adrenaline-pumping moments. I intend to bring authenticity to the project, drawing from my Romanian heritage and insights gained from naval life. These elements weave a genuinely resonant story, enabling audiences to empathise profoundly with the characters and their experiences."

When asked about her aspirations for readers, Glod shares, "While this marks my debut, my goal isn't to create just another action-packed novel. I aspire to offer a thought-provoking and emotionally charged odyssey that leaves a lasting impact on readers."

Bin, an Australian diplomat, is sent on his first mission to pitch the Stinger anti-drone defense equipment to aid in the Russia-Ukraine war. He hopes to secure a buyer and make allies. During his mission, he meets Bogdan, a Romanian Navy officer, and Anishka, a Ukrainian Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs. The three unlikely allies find themselves entangled in the war and witness the devastating effects it has on the Ukraine-Russia border. They learn how the turbulent political and economic situations in both countries have led to continuous conflicts, which have destroyed the lives of the people living in these areas. Each of them has a special mission, but they find themselves on the other side of the border and must depend on each other to survive and return to safety. Join the trio as they embark on a life-changing experience in The Edge of War and Love by Nicoletta Glod.

The Edge of War and Love is an intense and fast-paced story that features car chases, kidnappings, and near-death experiences. The characters are complex and formidable, with their own struggles and emotions. Bin, for instance, finds himself torn between his family, love, and duty, while Anishka is hurt by the ongoing war between her two home countries. Nicoletta Glod does an excellent job of describing the effects of war on ordinary people and its destructive nature. Throughout the book, the characters discuss the complexities of war, different cultures and traditions from various parts of the world, and the history of different countries. Although the trio meets for the first time, they have natural chemistry and work together perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and intriguing characters, which made the book a pleasure to read. The author did a fantastic job, and I look forward to reading more books from her.

In The Edge of War and Love by Nicoletta Glod, diplomat Bin embarks on his first mission involving Ukraine's conflict at a NATO conference in Canberra. Bin leaves for Bucharest, where he meets with delegates Bogdan and Anishka, from Romania and Ukraine. At a soirée, Anishka strategically connects Bin with Grygoriy, an experienced officer, but then suspiciously disappears. Suspecting a kidnapping, Bin and Bogdan find and pursue the kidnappers through traffic, rescuing Anishka at a border post. For Bin, the mission toward securing military aid for Ukraine and diplomatic discussions ensues, including equipment trials on a U.K. frigate. After Bin and Bogdan intercept a Russian drone threatening Ukrainian ships and Anishka causes concern by briefly approaching a console, their frigate is thrust into battle and sinks, leaving the trio adrift and fleeing from gunfire.

Nicoletta Glod packs a lot of punch into a moderately short story, The Edge of War and Love, combining the real-world events of right now in a timely twist that focuses on three individuals who each have a hand in it. Bogdan, Bin, and Anishka are all thoughtfully constructed, three-dimensional characters, and Glod does well in the subtle messaging their dynamics play in the story as a whole. For example, I was particularly impressed with the portrayal of the grand hall with its marble flooring, tall windows, crystal chandeliers, and ornate décor—a rich picture of the luxurious ambiance juxtaposed against the horrors of war that drive their diplomatic maneuvers. The writing is simple, straightforward, and accessible, and the action is almost non-stop. Overall, this is an exciting piece of fiction to entertain a reader over an afternoon, and one that hints at more to come. Recommended.
