The End of Interludes by Katherine Turner is the story of a hard-working woman who realizes there is more to life than just existing. Nina grew up in near poverty, and that gave her the incentive to work harder than most people. She left all that behind, achieved a successful career, and lived in a house that she was proud of. However, loneliness and the trauma of her past still haunted her every day. Nina’s saving grace came in the form of her old love, Myles. He and Nina had fallen in love in college, but when tragedy struck Nina, they drifted apart. Now that he was back, Myles was not going to leave her ever again. He was ready to give her some tender loving care until she faced her demons and gave love a chance once more. However, when the going gets tough, and the smoke screen dissipates, Nina and Myles face their biggest challenge yet.
Beautifully constructed and perfectly executed, The End of Interludes is an emotional story that had me hooked from the very start. I felt bad for Nina in the beginning and then formed a connection with her. She was scared to live, to express herself, and to want. However, her growth and transformation were brilliant. Katherine Turner created the perfect environment for our protagonist to thrive, develop, and become a well-rounded character. I loved how Myles interacted with Nina and how the chemistry between them was soothing rather than electric. This was because Nina needed someone to support her and guide her as she went through the turmoil of her past. Their relationship was about comfort and helping each other blossom, regardless of the situation. Along with that, the pace of the story complemented Nina’s growth. The descriptions were on point, the flow of the story was perfect, and the author achieved all this beautifully. Highly recommended.
