David Baldacci has hit the ball out of the park with his book The Escape. Once again, readers are reunited with one of their favorite characters - John Puller, the government's go-to man when it comes to probing the harshest crimes facing the land. In The Escape, he is called to track a Leavenworth Military Prison escaped prisoner: his own brother. Captain Veronica Know and Puller are forced to work together, even though he is not sure he can trust her. John isn’t the only one searching for his brother; only the other pursuers want him dead. Can John keep his brother alive?
David Baldacci just keeps churning out hits. Like the pro he is, he carefully uses the first few chapters to lay out the scene which he will build on as the book progresses. All of David Baldacci’s fans know he is the king of thrillers, but I truly believe he has outdone himself this time. My copy is audio format and read by Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy. Kudos to both readers for their fine reading style. The plot of The Escape could easily have been torn out of headlines for it addresses national security and constitutional rights. The author also sheds light on a dreaded disease - Alzheimer’s. He addresses the relationships of father and son and brother and brother. The Escape is the third book in the John Puller series. While it stands well on its own, I recommend reading the books in order: Zero Day (book one) and The Forgotten (book two).
