The Everyday Mom’s Guide to Being FIT & FABULOUS by Shondreka Palmer is a nine-week (60 day) health and fitness challenge for moms to get ‘fit and fabulous’! The author states in the first chapter: “Being fit and in shape is not all about being skinny, it’s about being healthy ... When you look good, you feel good!” Palmer starts with an introduction section, explaining to readers how to count calories, fat versus muscle, a sample healthy meal menu for the day, and other relevant information. Then the “real” fun begins! Palmer goes day-by-day (starting at day one, of course) and gives readers a detailed exercise plan for each day. She includes helpful pictures to demonstrate proper form and lists the requirements for each activity (whether it be squat, lunge, push up, stretches, etc) with the required number of reps and proper techniques. The different weeks of the program focus on different parts of the body – abs, upper body, lower body, legs and so on - to give the reader a complete body workout by the time the nine-week challenge is complete.

As a mom myself, I found The Everyday Mom’s Guide to Being FIT & FABULOUS to be an inspirational and motivational read. Palmer has an infectious and perky personality that really shines through in her writing. She does a great job thoroughly explaining the techniques and form used on each exercise and I really liked how she included real color pictures to demonstrate proper form. However, obtaining a healthy and strong body requires not only exercise but also a healthy meal plan. So I would recommend that readers pair this book with a detailed healthy meal plan book to get a complete program (since this book focuses mainly on exercise).
