The Extra-Ordinary Star is a children's book written in rhyme by Alexander Sun. An ordinary star looked into the galaxy and was truly astounded by the beauty it saw. Initially, the star felt quite insignificant as it did not seem to stand out in any way. It was not big like the moon, nor was it wished upon like a comet or a shooting star. It was not surrounded by magnificent rings like those of Saturn. But being without these things did not make it any less important than any other star in the universe, because when you put all the ordinary stars together, they form something truly magnificent - together they form a constellation.
Alexander Sun's book made me look up at the sky tonight as if it were all brand new. Seeing the universe from the perspective of one of the billions of stars, planets, comets and satellites above us put me in awe of it all. The Extra-Ordinary Star makes us look up and see a galaxy of things that thrill and confound us at the very same time. Those things above us make me as small as a grain of sand on a beach in front of a giant ocean filled with mysteries. I see many readers (both young and old) developing a future in the field of astronomy or an interest in NASA, the International Space Station, our solar system, black holes, and more. I highly recommend The Extra-Ordinary Star to children and adults alike, so that we can see how beautiful our universe truly is.
