In a moment of madness, Harold "Salty" Saltzmanous commits an unthinkable error, one so horrible he cannot bear to look in the eye the one person left on this planet who means something to him. He walks away from everything he has ever known and proceeds to erase every record of what he used to be. The one thing Salty does not take into consideration is the determination of people from his past to find answers. Salty is about to find out that, no matter how far you run, sooner or later your sins will eventually catch up to you in Allan Davis's The Eye of the Chicken.

Allan Davis's The Eye of the Chicken has redemption at the core of its storyline. His principal character's struggle with coming to terms with moments of madness in his life is depicted so naturally that it is easy for the reader to understand his unusual reluctance to move on from that point in his life. The conversations between the characters give a deeper understanding of not just Salty's motivations but also those of the secondary characters in the story. What is unique about them is the way a simple dialogue evolves into a deep ideological discourse on right and wrong. Another impressive aspect of how Davis tells his tale is the way he subtly creates an emphasis on objects and individuals. Examples of this are the bridge being more of a psychological divide between both worlds than a physical contraption and Father Sutcliffe's role in embarking on that transformation process. This is an excellently crafted story with a thought-provoking message.
