The Farmer's Wife and the MenoClucks by Barbara Elizabeth takes the touchy subject of menopause and explains it through her hens as they grow older and can no longer meet the demands of a rooster who rules the yard. He doesn't account for the fact that they're getting old and will not be the same people they were 10 years ago. Mae and her hens, Itchy Cluck, Cranky Cluck, Forgetful Cluck, Crazy Cluck, Sweaty Cluck, Sleepy Cluck, and Bloated Cluck, each of the Meno Clucks, explain and advise at each stage of menopause. Mae has not forgotten the partners in women's lives and how some of them cope with their partners' changes. Rooster Doodle Doo gets told that he cannot fix his ladies with shouting and dismissing their feelings; he needs to stop and really listen. Sage advice for all.
In The Farmer's Wife and the MenoClucks by Barbara Elizabeth, the author has done her own illustrations, which bring each Meno Cluck to life in the most delightful way. The drawings make the reader realize that there are two ways of handling menopause. One is where you make everyone’s life miserable, or the other way, where you can evolve and help them understand what you are going through, with no threat of turning them into Rooster Stew. The reader will love the recipe for Rooster Stew. It is well worth the attempt. This book will help anyone going through the menopause on a fairly even keel; I wish I had found it sooner. Thank you for this delightful book, which I will be recommending to my daughter and granddaughters.
