Did you know that the first city to be built was in the Middle East, and its remains are still there today? How about our laws and the justice served in our courts today? Did you know their foundation came from how the moon shines equally on everyone? Find out these and much more from Nury Vittachi, a writer who takes delight in bringing science and history to life for young and old readers. In his book, The First of Everything, we meet him and his assistants as they sit in a library and do a research project with the theme "The First of Everything." Through computers and books from school libraries across the world, the author goes deeper than ever into the earliest recorded history and science to provide answers to a range of questions about the origins of everything and anything.
This book encourages and reminds everyone that, even though it's not easy, they can be great researchers, no matter their age. All they need to do is pick a theme that interests them. Nury Vittachi was generous enough to provide steps to show how to begin the research process. He has crafted absorbing and exciting stories about the old discoveries that laid the foundation for the world we know. Vittachi takes hold of each question of interest and refines it to ensure it is answerable and fun. Even while describing the most technical subjects, he uses simple, understandable terms to educate and inform the reader. The illustrations and colorful backgrounds by Step Cheung bring the pages to life and excellently complement the text. Most images involving people are hilarious and even made me chuckle. The First of Everything is a simple, fun, and educational read worth checking out for anyone aspiring to become a researcher or looking for a gripping read about the origin of a vast range of things.
