I worked in the field of Cloud computing for the previous 8 years. Hence I picked this book with lot of interest and curiosity. I wanted to know how author Michael C. Daconta takes this niche concept to the masses. That is the primary motivation behind me reading this book. The Great Cloud Migration is a great book for anyone who wants to know what this technology change is all about. When our pictures, files, and everything else is moving to Cloud, it is much more than a cheap (or free) and reliable storage on the internet. Many business applications are now being run from the Cloud, accessed by every company from banks to government organizations to schools to retail stores to everything else.
This big change brings its own complexities. For example, in regions where the internet access is not very fast, it becomes a pain to have a Cloud strategy. At the same time, going for a mix of Cloud and nonCloud systems defeats the whole purpose. Many organizations are working towards bringing some discipline in this, so that these issues can be handled better. Michael C. Daconta's book deals with all these concepts in a simple style, while covering the topics in detail. I liked the Cloud computing statistics presented in the book, big data overview, and all the interesting case studies. The chapter on Cloud strategy road map is extremely useful to any corporation, small or big.
