The Great Divide: Story of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Race by Howard Harrison is a compelling political book that explores the crisis that has rocked the American political landscape since the advent of Trump. Starting from whenTrump was nominated as a candidate for the presidency, the author explores the different moments of what he calls “the great divide,” and the part that Trump played in exposing the hatred in the hearts of the American people. The most disturbing and grabbing moment is in 2015, when the real estate mogul, a man considered by his own party members as a “racist, narcissist, chauvinist, misogynist, homophobe, xenophobe, demagogue, blowhard, con man and worse” was nominated. Without political experience, Trump set off to run a controversial campaign that would rock, not only Americans, but the entire world. The underlying question that readers will ask is: Why Trump? And this author provides answers that will take many by surprise.
This book documents the events leading up to and during the turbulent elections of 2016 and the reverberating effects it has had on American history. Howard Harrison’s book is a brilliant, unbiased documentation of America’s contemporary history and the story of some of its most prominent players. Readers will read about the 2016 campaign and what made it an unusual historical event, the Supreme Court vacancy, terrorism, Trump's scandals, Hillary Clinton's email scandals and how it became one of Trump’s deadly tools, the Mexican Wall, and a lot more. The Great Divide: Story of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Race offers one of the best political and social commentaries I have read about the 2016 presidential race. The author writes with detail and gives readers a clear and solid picture of the political conundrum of the period. Readers get insights into why America became ruthlessly polarized. It is well-researched and expertly written, deftly narrating the events that ushered a new and disturbing era into US political history.
