Author Biography

Callista Eckert is a future doctor, fantasy fiction writer, and lover of all things dogs and hiking. Her obsession with books began at a young age, staying up past her bedtime to finish just one more chapter. The Halfling began as an idea when she was a teenager and grew until she couldn’t help but to write it down.
Not willing to pick only one career path, Callista played Division 1 soccer in college while earning an English degree and taking all her pre-med requirements. She is currently finishing up her last year of medical school while traveling across the country with her dog, Anubis.

Callista Eckert brings us an astonishing epic fantasy in The Halfling. Aisling is known as the Dragon. She is the assassin of the crown, and she is the best there is. Since a young age, Aisling has been conditioned to become the monster she is now. For her next task, Aisling has to travel to the lands of the elves. Accompanied by the heir and his entourage, which includes her best friend, Aisling is hesitant to go to those who would have killed her at birth. The purpose of this journey is on a need-to-know basis; apparently, Aisling doesn’t need to know. Deep inside, Aisling seems to have a power that could either save the world or destroy it. It’s hard to know which to choose when everyone around Aisling ends up deserting and betraying her.

Author Callista Eckert has one of those rare talents that immediately allows the reader to get lost in the story. Certain requirements have to be met, and the author has ticked all the boxes perfectly. Sensory stimulation is evident with descriptions of physical characteristics and scenery. A strong female character with a past she wants to keep secret is always a prerequisite. The plot is solid, the pace is steady and there are more than enough perfectly choreographed fight scenes. Written in the first-person narrative from the perspective of our leading lady just makes this book so much more personal. With some graphic violence, explicit language, and sexual situations, The Halfling might not be suited for younger readers. However, I found myself already addicted and craving more.
