In The Josan and the Jee by William Karl Thomas, Sook Cha is escaping to the south because of the invasion by the North Koreans. Sadly, they catch up with them, and what follows is gruesome murders and the rape of children. Sook Cha only survives by lying beneath her father, who is also killed. With determination, she proceeds south after ensuring the soldiers have left, but she is captured later on by another soldier who molests her in the worst possible ways. In a turn of events, she kills the soldier and secures his pistol. While continuing with her journey to the south, she meets Young and Old Mamasan, and they develop a special relationship. Max is a soldier stationed in South Korea. How will things turn out between Max and Sook Cha, and her friends?

The Josan and the Jee by William Karl Thomas is wonderfully written with a style that is crisp, engaging, and filled with well-crafted dialogue that brings the story and characters to life. The plot flows seamlessly, taking the reader on a gripping journey filled with unexpected directions and moral dilemmas. This thought-provoking work gets one thinking about the horrors of war, such as the rape of children, starvation, and the rise in sexually transmitted diseases due to the increase in prostitution. The work also explores how soldiers stationed abroad operate and the challenges they face. William also ensured all events and emotions were vividly captured, which helped create a mental picture of what was happening. I look forward to reading something else by this talented author.
