The Last Chameleon is a work in the science fiction, action, and interpersonal drama subgenres. It is best suited to mature teens and the general adult reading audience. It is penned by Bob Boiko, with illustrations at the opening of each scene provided by artist Manuel Figueiredo. In this enthralling drama set in the year 2255, we discover that humanity has been settled into a century of peace after finally achieving balance within itself and the more expansive universe. That is, until Katreen Roper and her son, Tat, find themselves on the brink of innovation and devastation, with a discovery that can and will break the peace and create more chaos amongst humanity.
Bob Boiko has crafted an enthralling and easy-to-read drama with plenty of fascinating science fiction concepts to explore, as well as realistic and highly relatable characters whom I fell in love with from the moment they were on the page. The most striking feature for me was the structure of the work, which plays out in scenes rather than chapters, giving the story a fresh and cinematic feel like a blockbuster movie or a slick Netflix special. The illustrations by artist Manuel Figueiredo have an exquisite sense of color, atmosphere, and depth to set the mood of each moment. It was also brilliant to have clear visual reference points for the characters, which made them even more realistic and easy to tune into their emotions. For stellar dialogue, a clever plot, exciting concepts, and a highly atmospheric character drama, look no further than The Last Chameleon for your next sci-fi read.
