The Legend of Chip: The Cover of Darkness is a work of fiction in the adventure, Christian fiction, and sci-fi and fantasy subgenres. It is suitable for readers of all ages and was penned by author Stanley Campbell. In the third novel in The Legend of Chip saga, we are once again reunited with our protagonist, Christopher "Chip" MacDougall, as he toys with a difficult decision for his future. The Shadow Clan’s power is rising all around him, but Chip has his own good name to clear back in Scotland. The other alternative would be to try to begin anew on the American continent, but would that truly be far enough to escape the Shadow Clan for good?
Author Stanley Campbell has crafted an excellent continuation to Chip’s story that follows him through another interesting period of world history with lots of opportunities for adventure, exploration, and growth. One of the features that I really enjoyed about this novel was how the fantasy elements are woven seamlessly into the plot, interweaving with a heartfelt and realistic narrative so that nothing feels out of place and is totally believable within the story itself. There’s a core narrative question of identity that runs through this novel as a powerful central theme, and it really captures the spirit of reinvention versus being true to oneself, which is a concept that everyone can relate to. Overall, The Legend of Chip: The Cover of Darkness has a compelling fantasy plot with plenty of great action and intrigue, as well as a satisfying personal drama with a relatable hero who deserves only the best.
