Author Monica Dumont writes a beautiful children's book that will engage both the child and parent during story time. The Little Bear and the Big Bear teaches young readers about how one views life and the positive as well as the negative impact that is has. Big Bear grumbled, complained, fussed, and was angry, while Little Bear happy, happy, happy, and well ... again he was happy. Little Bear understood that life isn't about being upset and frustrated all the time, rather life can be filled with joy, laughter, and fun. Little Bear endeavored to help Big Bear look at life and specific situations in a different manner so he could enjoy life as well. He instructed Big Bear to stop and reevaluate the situations that he found himself in and not just see the negative but rather the positive. One step at a time, one day at a time, one situation at a time and things would greatly improve was Little Bear's way of looking at life.
Ms. Dumont does a wonderful job in both words and pictures, helping the reader to learn a very teachable lesson from Little Bear. She also gives a three-step book challenge at the end to engage the reader in what they have read and allow them to immediately put into practice the things they have just learned. There are a couple of coloring pages that every child would clearly enjoy as they can color both Big Bear and Little Bear to look as they would imagine.
