In The Loathe Boat by Cindy Dorminy, Chrissy Parks and Deacon Youngblood win a cruise and have every intention of going on it as a couple. After several months, a misunderstanding puts them at odds, and Chrissy dreads sharing a stateroom with her ex-boyfriend. Deacon shows up in good spirits, determined to win back Chrissy's heart, but he isn't the only one vying for her attention. Chrissy's ex-husband is on the same cruise, and he makes it clear he wants to reconcile with her. Deacon has a secret of his own, and it follows him onto the boat, possibly taking away any chance Deacon has to mend the relationship with the love of his life. As they navigate excursions, setbacks, and live-action role-play, Chrissy and Deacon will either sail into each other's arms or leave with empty hearts.
Cindy Dorminy tells the story like she's on a cruise with the characters. Dorminy details every beautiful place on the boat and in Bermuda, giving readers a full picture of the lovely settings in her novel. Readers get the inside scoop on Chrissy's and Deacon's thoughts, making them cheer for the couple to get back together and worry about the obstacles preventing their reunion. In the world of themed cruises, I never considered live-action role play, but the presence of the LARPers creates a hilarious backdrop. Romance readers will enjoy it, and if you're a travel agent who hopes to recruit cruisers, The Loathe Boat would be a great book to give potential clients. Not only is it a fun story, but the narration includes onboard activities that will make people wish they were aboard The Loathe Boat.
