In Matthew C. Lucas’s The Lost Lock, Yonder and Far had been banished to Doldrums. A punishment much like a slow death of the spirit for those so used to the vibrancy of the Grove. But there is hope for their return. A favorable word in the ear of the Queen could be all it would take. But to secure such a favor, someone close to the Queen would be in need of their aid. Fortunately, such a person found themselves at their door. She had been a fool, lulled into security by pretty words and promises. She had given a lock of her true hair to a man; not just any man, but one who sought the affections of many, leaving her feeling like a fool. She wants her hair returned, and Yonder and Far want to return home. It seems like the perfect opportunity. But in a word with fae and promises, things are not always as they seem.
The Lost Lock is the first book in Matthew C. Lucas’s Yonder and Far series. This book will take you on a gripping adventure where you delve between worlds as Far and Yonder seek a way back into the Queen’s good graces. But what started as a simple quest becomes so much more as the reader is pulled into a well-crafted world and a plot full of twists and deception. The reader will be amazing as a simple quest spirals and cascades into something beyond the imagination. You never know which characters will become more crucial and important than their first meeting suggests, or where fate will lead them next. The characters are devised with vibrant and unique personalities which make for engaging and sometimes humorous scenes. This was an enjoyable read with rising tension, gripping action, and fantastic character interaction.
