Author Biography

Born and raised in the Midwest, I am the youngest of three children. My childhood included a lot of imaginary play with other kids in the neighborhood. We spent hours creating backyard plays, puppet shows and penny carnivals. As a young mother, my children and I often played verbal games with silly sentences or made up bedtime stories, starring each of them as main characters. Some of these left lifetime memories. A little later in life I was thrilled to re-discover my desire to create stories, and time I was inspired by the birth of my first grandchild.
With a degree in Child Development & Family Relations, I have spent much of my career working in the non-profit world. There are underlying themes in life, such as being kind, getting along, caring about others and finding reasons for joy. It is my desire to gently display these in The LoveBugs stories with a whimsical reflection of children, themselves.
I now live in sunny Arizona and enjoy fostering a love of reading and imaginative play with our 'next generation!'

The LoveBugs Welcome Party by Joanne Grady is a whimsical story revolving around family and love. The sun wakes up and says hello to the LoveBugs, except Ashlynne who is still sleeping. Ashlynne wants to take the new BabyBug home, but MommyBug says it is not yet their turn. Ashlynne takes her crayons and goes to color. She goes in search of a leaf to color and hears Olivia saying that there is a party to welcome the new baby LoveBug. All the young bugs go to join the LoveBugs at the Big Rock. The new BabyBug, Simon, is welcomed by all. Ashlynne hears a funny sound and sees another BabyBug, but it turns out to be a Baby Honeybee. Now which LoveBug will take care of a bee? How will the LoveBugs handle the surprise?

It is a wonderful story of family, friendship, and community living. The illustrations are bright and colorful and they give a good movement to the story and breathe life into the scenes and characters. It is a good story for read aloud sessions in classrooms and the magical vibe makes it a captivating story. Parents can use it for bedtime story-telling to help children understand about family, community living, friendship, and love. Ashlynne’s character is adorable and children will love her and her personality. It is endearing to see the way she loves Bailey Bee and the way she takes care of the baby Honeybee.
