When Lisa Greenberg, a journalist for New Horizons, a magazine based in Washington, D.C, is found dead under mysterious circumstances, her colleague Anna Stenmark picks up her work from where Lisa left off. Apart from covering the campaign of presidential hopeful Senator Eric Pauli, Lisa had also been following up on a story involving a couple called the Hillmans. As Anna takes on both assignments, she meets James Atkinson, the kin of a deceased war veteran who has inherited a rare collection of World War II treasures, propelling him into the spotlight. The duo is about to uncover a scandalous, decades-old conspiracy linked to the senator, the Hillmans, and James’ treasure collection. But not before they are drawn into a perilous race for the truth, as a powerful force hunts them, intent on preventing them from ever getting to it. Find out how it all goes down in The Manhattan Deception by Simon Leighton-Porter.
If you are looking for a conspiracy thriller flavored with political and historical intrigue, action, mystery, a splash of romance, suspense, and plot twists, The Manhattan Deception by Simon Leighton-Porter is a great pick. The story’s premise is based on events and prominent figures who shaped and influenced World War II. The author offers an interesting take, albeit speculative, on how Hitler and his family left Germany during the fall of the Nazi regime. The story highlights how scientists and intellectuals were forcefully drawn into the war, offering their expertise for a cause they did not believe in, and how the government later betrayed them. It is baffling how quickly the government persecuted them after their immense contributions to the war. As I followed James and Anna, pursuing leads into their investigation and flying across the world, piecing together bits of information, I learned quite a lot about America’s and Germany’s political histories. The vivid imagery and dynamic prose made reading this heart-pounding book feel like watching a Hollywood conspiracy thriller.
