The Martyr's Tears: The Chronicles of the Martyr, Volume 2 by Joel Gavin Manners is the story of two strong women who are trying to restore peace in their world. This is the story of Danielle, a young woman who used to be the pride of her people, but now she is nothing more than a fugitive. Now that she has “fallen from grace,” she is running for her life and to stop the person who is trying to ruin everything for everyone. On one hand, we have Danielle, who is desperately trying to fight for right and on the other hand, we have Wyn, who was a spy but she is now too injured to do anything.
The only thing keeping Wyn alive is getting her revenge on the person who ruined her life and augmented the circumstances that made her a thief and a spy. Now gravely injured, she is desperately trying to find her strength and get her revenge. While these two women are each trying to fight their own battle, there is something bigger and far more threatening waiting around the corner. Wyn is stuck in her own battle, but Danielle is trying to find the reason to fight and help her people from becoming victims of a madman.
This is a very refreshing and very entertaining novel. Once again, I loved Wyn; there is something about her that just makes me relate to her and sympathize with her. She has a spark and spunk that just never dies down, even when she is gravely injured and fighting for every breath. I liked Danielle as well; she is a strong female lead that has been beautifully developed. She has a mind of her own and she is no shrinking wall flower. She knows when she should take charge of the situation and when she should step away. I really enjoyed these two strong female characters and the way the story was written. Really brilliant!
