The Monsoon Killed the Tiger by Jack Lyndon Thomas is a thriller that will keep readers riveted to the story. Kannon Ballard returns to Vietnam, giving up a girlfriend and a motorcycle adventure in the San Juan mountains. A letter stating 'We have unfinished business' takes him back to a phase that he wants to forget, but he has to go back there to look into unfinished business. He meets his old friend in Saigon, who is only able to give him a few details. Kannon has to find out more from other sources and trace the retired American infantry major who relieved Kannon from the 1970 After Action Report. Now what is the business that has made Kannon go back? Will he be successful in his mission?
The author has cleverly woven a complex story with lot of twists and turns, atrocities, drug trafficking, passion and conspiracy. The story not only has complexities in the plot but also in the characters. The plot has a little bit of everything that makes it an engaging story. The confrontational scenes in the book are compelling and, added to the detailed descriptions of the scenes, give many dimensions to the story. The complex plot will give readers enough reason to think and be entertained with this thriller.
There is a lot of movement in the plot which makes it action packed and also fast paced. On the whole, it is a gripping novel that will keep readers guessing with its suspense, action and conspiracy.
