In The Murder Mystery Book Club by C.A. Larmer, Alicia Finlay never fitted into the book clubs that discussed the literary and symbolic meaning of every aspect of a book. Quite frankly, she found no book club that matched her interests. After quitting one such book club, she decided to start her own Murder Mystery Book Club. And what better book to start the club than with Agatha Christie! Once she shortlisted the interested candidates, she found a new purpose in life. However, the purpose that was approaching her and her book club lay beyond their wildest dreams. Just after two official meetings of the book club, one of the club members, Barbara, went missing. Proving Newton's law valid, this action produced a chain of opposite (albeit not entirely equal) reactions. The book club members decided to put on their sleuth caps and dig deep into the investigation of this case, unaware of the life-threatening circumstances that were just beginning to unfold.
True to its blurb, The Murder Mystery Book Club is indeed a cozy mystery full of well-fabricated webs of twists and amusing drama. Even though the book revolves around the serious plot of a missing person, C.A. Larmer keeps the overall mood light. The characters have unique quirks and personalities that make them memorable. To add to this attribute, C.A. Larmer has infused enough secrets into each of them to make them even more intriguing. It's hard to convince oneself to go back to daily chores before finishing this book. It's that good. The mystery was well disguised, with many suspicious characters thrown into the mix. It was a delight to see the book club dissecting every detail to pinpoint the culprit. I recommend The Murder Mystery Book Club by C.A. Larmer for a cozy afternoon’s reading; just remember to get your sleuth on!
