The Old Rose Villa by Tuula Pere is another book in the Stories of India series. Mihir had to walk a long way to school every day and he mostly walked it alone. His parents encouraged him to go in the hopes that he would have a better life, but the walk was a dangerous one. When he wasn’t at school, Mihir helped his father on the construction site, and he dreamed of living in the wonderful house being built. Years passed, and Mihir was so successful at his job that he returned home and bought the house for his parents. Over the years, the villa is home to many people but will Mihir ever want to return to his homeland and live there again?

The Old Rose Villa by Tulla Pere is an amazing story, and the hand-painted illustrations by Akanksha Priya help bring the words to life on every page. The story follows Mihir from his life as a young child at school and helping his parents to life after his parents’ deaths. The story is about two things – Mihir and the Old Rose Villa, and it teaches children many things, as well as being a lovely story to read. It teaches kids to reach for their dreams and that they can have a better life if they put in the work. But it also teaches them that home really is where the heart is and not to let life pass them by without experiencing and enjoying it. The characters are wonderful, so likable, and easy to relate to, and the story may even bring a tear to your eye – but only briefly. I love Tuula’s stories, and this series is different from everything else she has written. I enjoyed it, and I think kids the world over will love it too.
