Magic and mystery abound in The Pearl of Immortality: The Sands of Time Book, One by Nishi Singh. Young Xerxes and his best friend, Kaspar, are intrigued with the items in a local antique shop filled with magical and unusual artefacts. A magic wand, a golden lamp and a crystal panther that come to life are just the beginning of the strange and amazing adventure the boys are swept up in – literally! Suddenly, they find themselves separated, each relocated into a strange new world. Xerxes is now truly the Dragonheart, a nickname his grandfather always called him, and under the instruction of the king’s Grandmaster Nab. Charged with finding missing artefacts to help defeat the Nagas, the Snake People, Xerxes must quickly improve his fighting skills and command of magic. As his adventures begin, Xerxes meets many wonderful and strange beings who help him on his path – but the evil followers of the Dark Flame are ever present, trying to find the same missing items to secure their own power. With a dragon as his companion, will Xerxes have the strength to achieve his mission or are the forces of evil already too strong?
Wonderfully detailed and imaginative, The Pearl of Immortality by Nishi Singh is truly a fantasy epic that holds your attention from page one. You can really appreciate Xerxes’ vulnerability as he is forced into a new life where his actions are what will determine the survival of the planet. As one incredible creature after another becomes part of the adventure, the depth of the story grows and provides plenty of opportunities for new understandings and abilities that will help Xerxes accomplish his tasks. Although rather wordy at times with some awkward uses of vocabulary, The Pearl of Immortality: The Sands of Time, Book One is an excellent story that promises even more action in the next volume.
