In The Pinch Pixie by Heather Dagostino, we are introduced to a beautiful pixie with a very important job. It’s her job to make sure that you aren’t afraid to get a vaccine that is much needed. Vaccines were developed many years ago by a man named Louis Pasteur. His invention prevented people from getting very sick and parents were very grateful. Just knowing that getting the pinch is for your own good and doesn’t hurt that much at all. But there are still some terrified children. That’s where The Pinch Pixie comes in to help. Bringing magic and rewards for the kids who overcome their fear of shots, The Pinch Pixie comes from a faraway place to make this experience easier for the child needing a shot. With a spell to give them courage and bravery, she gives these kids the strength they need to get the vaccine.
I thought The Pinch Pixie is a wonderful and helpful book. As an adult who needs her own Pinch Pixie, I know all too well what it’s like to have a phobia of needles that I still have to this day. I only wished there was a book like this when I was younger. It’s a fun read, yet offers serious advice with a bit of history as to how vaccines came about and how important they are. It’s explained in a way to make a young child understand, and the beautiful illustrations only add to the effect. Heather Dagostino and her husband have done a great job with this book and I have a few kids in my life that would benefit from this book.
