Finding Home: A Tale for Anyone Who Has Forgotten Their Way is a fabulous, illustrated children’s book by Mary-Anne Haupt. Four children, Lucy, Abigail, Joseph, and Ben, walk in the woods. Lucy feels lost and wants to go home. Abigail also feels scared. Joseph hides his fear and worry behind a brave front. Only Ben is genuinely calm. He listens and watches for animals, convinced that animals will help them, and fascinates his friends with a story about animal and human superpowers. Then Lucy hears a rustle and notices a mouse. Abigail sees a hawk above the trees. Joseph notices a spider weaving a web. Then they hear a wolf and see a turtle by a stream. But will these discoveries help the friends find their way home?
Finding Home is one of the most engaging children’s books I have read recently. This intriguing adventure was fun to read, and I enjoyed discovering how the animals helped the children learn and use their talents and strengths. The full-page, colorful illustrations were hypnotizing. I also appreciated how Mary-Anne Haupt used her teaching experience to offer gentle guidance for discovering one’s inner strengths. But what really blew me away was the deeper layer of important lessons that made this story immensely useful for children and adults alike. These lessons, illustrated by the children’s discoveries of animals and plants, taught them to stick together in peril, see the big picture, pay attention to detail, be creative, and more. If you or your child feels spiritually lost, this book will help you find your way.
