The Reporter’s Unlikely Reunion: The Most Unlikely To Series, Book 1 by MaryAnne Clarke revolves around the rekindled relationship between a reputable war correspondent, Ruby Zimmer, and her high school sweetheart - local farmer and chef Julian Michaels. The two reconnect at their tenth class reunion which Ruby attended unexpectedly after returning for some much-needed R&R when a work assignment went awry. Ten years previously, Ruby left Port Cam and her boyfriend Julian without any explanation. It was later learned that she had enrolled to study journalism in Wisconsin and went on to become a famous war correspondent. Ruby only returned to Port Cam during the week of the reunion and felt compelled to attend after much urging by her old friends. When Ruby and Julian eventually meet, sparks fly between them. Will they revive their relationship?
A pleasing aspect of The Reporter’s Unlikely Reunion is that MaryAnne Clarke crafts wonderful conversations filled with wit and humor between the characters. The plot is realistic, making this romantic novel a drawcard for those who love the genre. Ruby and Julian are portrayed as strong, successful, ethical people, yet remain credible, enabling readers to relate to them. The themes of friendship and love emphasized in the book are bound to motivate readers to re-examine their personal relationships. This moderately-paced book ensures that readers can share a few steamy love scenes and many memorable moments. The book is a fantastic read in which Clarke shows impeccable skill in breathing life into a wonderful love story.
