When Jack Miller, a non-profit city lawyer in his late thirties, boards a flight bound for Eastern Europe, he plans to spend two weeks touring Poland, Lithuania, and Belarus, where he also intends to learn about the mysterious history of his Jewish family, who have always kept it a secret from him. However, he has no idea what awaits him. Upon arriving in Belarus, Jack runs into Anna Petrova, an intellectual with whom he is smitten. He soon discovers Anna is a dedicated member of the Underground, a clandestine organization silently orchestrating a revolution against the tyrannical Belarusian regime. Through her, Jack gains access to historical records revealing his family’s shameful past. But that’s not all. After being briefed on the Underground’s activities, he agrees to help them with a risky covert operation. This marks the beginning of a perilous quest in which he not only uncovers an international conspiracy but also must race against time to save the woman he loves and the world from a looming war. Find out how it all goes down in The Riddle of the Trees by Marc S. Perlman.
Aficionados of espionage and conspiracy thrillers featuring action, adventure, political intrigue, suspense, and a touch of humor will love The Riddle of the Trees by Marc S. Perlman. Right from the start, Perlman draws readers in with an enthralling introduction that raises the bar of expectations and weaves a compelling, heart-pounding tale of love, duty, secrets, survival, and redemption that lives up to its initial hype. The cinematic depictions and dynamic prose immersed me in the lives of the well-crafted cast. As I followed Jack through the cities and villages in Poland, Belarus, and Lithuania, I could see the contrasting blend of modernity and European heritage. I could also feel the sociopolitical tension in Belarus and Poland. I learned a lot about the Holocaust and the international relations between Poland, Belarus, and Russia. I loved this book. This is definitely not the last time I’m diving into it.
