I wasn't totally sure what I was getting into when I picked up The Romanov Episode by Clive Radford, but I’m glad I did. It’s one of those books where you realize pretty quickly that you're holding something special. It isn't just another mystery; it’s a wild, high-stakes mix of old historical secrets and modern-day chaos that kept me guessing right up until the end. Radford takes the Romanov mystery—which we’ve all heard about—and turns it into a contemporary story with hitmen and international conspiracies. The energy of the narrative is just intense. One minute you’re in the "Last Roundup" and the next you’re on the shores of Lake Geneva, and it honestly feels like you're watching a movie play out in your head.
The author did such a masterful job of blending real history with a modern thriller. What I really appreciated was that the plot is sophisticated. It’s not one of those thrillers that treats the reader like they can't keep up. Instead, Clive Radford builds a layered story where you actually have to pay attention to the details to see how it all fits together. I loved the "Deep Dive" parts, where you can really tell he did his homework on the history. It’s rare to find a book that’s this well-researched but still makes you hold your breath because the tension is so high. Between the sharp characters and the way the Countess’s legacy ties everything together, The Romanov Episode was just a total knock-out. If you want a story that actually makes you question the "official" version of things, this is it. It’s a smart, tough read. Very highly recommended!
