Jonas McCleary is thrilled to be hired as the detective in quiet Sand Bluff. There have been no murders or high crimes in twenty years and Jonas expects to have an easy and laid-back job. When a dead body is found three days after he begins working, everything changes. An unidentified man is found in the alley behind the local drinking place. It is up to Jonas to solve the crime and when, a few days later, another body is found - Twyla, wife of insurance agent Larry Peters - the plot thickens. Along the way, Jonas meets Miss Right, the town reporter Roxie, and her son Wil and other strange local residents. Jonas is forced to make several decisions that are not what Chief Raymond Castillo would like, but he continues to investigate, not being satisfied until he finds his answers.
The Sand Bluff Murders is a really good read, with plain and refreshing dialog and believable, sincere characters. C.M. Albrecht has presented the reader with a real-life detective who is impossible not to like and respect. I really enjoyed reading The Sand Bluff Murders as there were just enough twists and turns to make it exciting and keep me reading until I found out “who done it.” I highly recommend this book to all mystery/detective fans. The Sand Bluff Murders has all of the makings for a weekly TV show. This is the first in a series and happily there will be lots more of Jonas McCleary and his detective prowess to look forward to.
