Twins Angus and Cassie wanted revenge for the abuse they suffered as children. In The Screaming Room, they are killing tourists in New York City. The bodies were scalped and left at tourist attractions for the world to see. In this excellent novel by Thomas O’Callaghan, Mayor Reardon wants Police Lieutenant John Driscoll to investigate the gruesome murders. Driscoll had just buried his wife after taking care of her at home. She had been comatose for the past six years following an accident caused by a drunk driver. The father of a victim is a multi-millionaire who is offering a reward of three million dollars for any information concerning his daughter’s murder. The father is busy with a personal investigation, which makes one question his motives.
The Screaming Room is a well-written thriller by Thomas O’Callaghan. The plot is unusual and perfectly executed. The suspense and terror of the murders kept me on the edge of my seat. I just kept reading along with all the action, wanting to find out what was going to happen next. Knowing the identity of the killers up front added to the suspense of the story. It felt like a game of chess. You kept wondering what their next move would be. Whenever the police came one step closer to finding them, the twins were always two steps ahead. The characters were brilliantly developed and robust. The chemistry between Driscoll and Dougherty added to the success of the story and made it more interesting. I enjoyed the intriguing ending.
