The battle for survival against a powerful, brutal alien enemy and the hope of rebuilding and starting anew take center stage in the exhilarating science fiction novel The Sentinels by R. Prior. Shortly after Chris Chisholm turns eighteen, society learns that scientists have been tracking alien ships spotted within the solar system. Within weeks, the ships arrive and spread out around the world. A process of destruction, genocide, and chaos follows as the aliens destroy everything in their path while harvesting Earth’s raw materials. Thousands die days after the ships arrive, and millions are viciously wiped out. Chris and his family flee, forming friendships and a community along the way. The Sentinels is also a story about hope. Chris’s family and other survivors become the hope for the continuity of human existence on Earth.

R. Prior vividly depicts the insurmountable struggles the Chisholms and other survivors face. The story drew me right in with its captivating descriptions of the following events after the aliens arrive. The Chisholm family is brave, creative, and likable. I loved the story’s swift pace and storyline dotted with unexpected scenes. The story has many surprises and intriguing details about the alien race and its goal on Earth that are cleverly threaded into the plot. The Sentinels is a spine-chilling, absorbing science fiction novel with engaging characters and thrilling scenes exploring friendship, survival, and hope. Readers will love its well-thought-out storyline and its hopeful ending.
