In "The Simplified Diet: How to Lose Weight Without Counting Calories", Michael Massie presents a step-by-step guide for an effective nutrition and exercise program. Massie is not only a personal fitness trainer, instructor and weight loss coach, but also someone who has had to lose weight. In his book, he sets out categories of foods to avoid, called 'The Five White Poisons' and explains how eliminating these foods can make a huge difference in your health and wellness as well as your weight. "The Simplified Diet" is described in detail, from the basic combinations of proteins, fats and carbohydrates to sample meals, recipes and meal plans. As any weight loss program requires exercise, Massie also includes an exercise routine that can be done at home without any additional equipment.

I was quite impressed by Massie’s simplified diet. It is sure to be welcome to anyone who has despaired of following complicated and restrictive diet programs. The guidelines are quite flexible, and the sample meals and recipes give you a good basis for following the principles Massie sets out. While many of us know that drinking lots of water is great for weight loss and health, it is nice to actually learn the basis for this, and Massie even demonstrates an easy and foolproof way to ensure that you drink the right amount of water each day. Massie gives a lot of information in this book. After reading it, I have a much better understanding of how the metabolism functions and why restrictive and extreme diets are actually worse than not dieting at all. There is also an informative guide to nutritional supplements at the end of the book. I am impressed with "The Simplified Diet" and intend to give it a try.
