Author Biography

Amanda is an attorney by day, and an author of children's stories by night. She grew up in the Great White North (Canada), but she currently lives in the-not-as-north, Kalamazoo, Michigan. In her free time she enjoys reading, playing tennis, cooking, baking, napping, and compulsively watching cooking and home improvement shows. Amanda also loves traveling around the world. She has visited many places that once had been home to knights...some of which may have even captured dragons! She and her partner share their home with one very needy black cat, his two slightly less needy sisters, and a very resilient dog.

The Sleepy Dragon is a children’s adventure by Amanda Bannikov. Knight Kimothin was feeling unhappy because the other knights in the Kingdom of Smesselleo teased her for she has never slain a dragon. Kimothin decided to go on a quest in search of one. She looked everywhere, including the forest, but still didn’t find any dragons to slay. She was not a quitter so Kimothin climbed the mountains, searched the caves, and found a very big green dragon in one. Kimothin was about to slay him with her sword when the dragon started chasing her, so she ran. When the dragon, whose name was Tippy, called out that he needed her help because he had insomnia, Kimothin returned. She wove Tippy a blanket from grass while he selected a rock for his pillow. Soon Tippy was fast asleep. Kimothin wants Tippy to return home with her, but how will the other knights react since she did not slay the dragon?

Amanda Bannikov has written a delightful book for children in The Sleepy Dragon. They will certainly love the fun adventure Knight Kimothin had. I am sure there are children who stay up at night just like Tippy when they should be asleep, and I think this will make a nice bedtime story for them. The author tells this story very well, outlining everything Kimothin does in an appealing writing style. The characters are adorable and I like the artwork that accompanies the story. This is the second book from Amanda Bannikov that I have enjoyed reading.
