The Tomb by Lyn Sholes and Joe Moore is a Maxine Decker Thriller. Maxine Decker retired from the OSI but has returned as an adviser. After helping to take down a cartel leader, drug lord and international thief, Maxine heads off for some R and R with her ex-boyfriend, but it just isn’t meant to be. Maxine gets drawn into a murder plot, a plot that involves an object that was meant for use in the Second World War to destroy the Hoover Dam. That object is an earthquake machine and, while it no longer works, the technology has been perfected. Maxine finds herself caught up between the Mexican cartel, looking for revenge for the death of their boss, and the designer of a new earthquake machine. It’s a race against time for Maxine as she tries to get away from the cartel and to stop the machine from being used as part of a murder plot against a Supreme Court justice.
The Tomb by Lyn Sholes and Joe Moore is a real thriller, edge of your seat stuff. There was plenty of action in it, in fact I don’t think there was a page that didn’t have any, hence I was gripped from page one and didn’t put the book down until it was finished. It left me wanting to read more of the Maxine Decker thrillers and I will definitely be looking for them. It wasn’t a long book but I found it to be just the right length and it was believable. It stayed in two countries, unlike some thrillers that spread across the entire globe, which made it easier to keep up with. I liked how there were two different plots going on at once; it really gave me something to get my teeth into! I also liked how the story was interspersed with an insight into the background of one of the protagonists – that gave the story some added depth as well. Fantastic book, great story, and I would highly recommend this to anyone.
