After her previous success with a cold case, Olivia Honeycutt, aka Liv, finds herself drawn back into the world of the paranormal as she tries to uncover the mysteries behind the death of Eloise Venable and her baby. The fire killing them had burned hot and fast, and while all evidence seemed to point towards arson, no evidence or suspects were found. Liv hopes to discover that evidence and finally solve the thirty-year-old mystery. Reaching out to the other side, she contacts the ghost of Eloise, and discovers a shocking truth that changes the way she looks at the case. It may no longer be simply murder, but a cover-up for another horrific deed. Can Liv discover the truth buried thirty years ago and finally bring peace and closure to the family?
The Walking Horses is the second book in Linda A. Browning's Parlor Game Mysteries, yet it reads seamlessly as stand-alone. I loved Liv's character, and her playful "sidekick", Toby l. Unbeknownst to her, as she starts an investigation into the truth, with it comes a discovery about her own abilities. A lot of thought and depth has clearly gone into the characters, plot, and the development, and it is impossible not to be hooked. Suspense, questions, and revelations tease readers to delve deeper into an involved and tightly woven story and will leave them hungry for more. This is a thrilling and inspired read. I can't wait to see what more is in store in Liv's future. Perfect for lovers of crime, mystery, and/or the paranormal.
