The Way It Happened is a work of fiction by author E. M. Pope in the women’s fiction, interpersonal drama, and slice-of-life subgenres. It is best suited to adult readers owing to some explicit language and sexual references. This audiobook presentation is narrated by Melissa Medina and Paul J. McSorley. The narrative unfolds in the intricate life journey of Erin Marie, a woman navigating the challenges of abandonment, illness, and self-discovery in the close-knit community of Ellijay, Georgia. Erin's character is beautifully rendered as a devoted mother, daughter, and friend whose life takes unexpected turns when her husband leaves her for a younger woman and she faces a cancer diagnosis.

Author E. M. Pope has crafted a highly engaging and emotionally charged story that really shows off a talent for narrative flow. To weave so many complex issues together in one story is no mean feat, and this work combines challenging themes and psychologically deep concepts, threading them together with gentle narrative shifts from scene to scene. I was especially impressed by the character development and the realism of the dialogue, which keeps us rooting for the characters and their tumultuous lives from start to finish.

In terms of its audiobook presentation, the narrators have a keen sense of the emotional nuances of Erin's story, portraying her resilience, love, and pursuit of hope amidst adversity with great respect. Melissa Medina and Paul J. McSorley bring the characters to life with their compelling narration, enhancing the listener's connection to the story. The editing and pacing are also smooth and easy to listen to, making it an engrossing and emotionally resonant audiobook experience that only enhances the story further. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend The Way It Happened as a transformative literary experience for one and all.
