Elijah is determined not to let Jackie, a girl, strike him out in the storybook The World Is Mine by Keisha Jenkins. Jackie is not the sweet little girl she is outside the baseball field. She is smiling as if she has already won. She hurls the ball and Elijah swings with all his might and smacks it into the catcher’s glove. Elijah wants a do-over and Jackie disagrees. Elijah shows his arrogance by saying that it is his dad’s baseball league and everything there is paid for by him. Jackie flings the ball and knocks Elijah unconscious. What happens next will leave readers astonished and fascinated as they see Elijah meeting God. Does Elijah’s encounter with God change him? Read the story to find out what happens.

The message is beautifully conveyed and Elijah’s transition is commendable. The illustrations are fun and adventurous, just like the story, and they will keep young readers enthralled as the story progresses. Elijah’s character is well portrayed and he is real, relatable, and his arrogance is tangible to readers. It is a good book to use for interactive sessions in classrooms and children learn forgiveness, friendship, and humility through this story. The author has woven in God and Elijah’s meeting with God and the planets in an entertaining way. It is a good way to introduce children to God, His power, and presence everywhere without making it feel overpowering. I also like how Elijah meets God and the changes that take place in his behavior after that.
