Grace is living a mundane reality. At home, her narcissistic mom drives her crazy with complaints and at school, things are just uninteresting. Alexa Lee’s Inescapable Escapism: The Worlds Behind Her Eyelids Book 1 tells of Grace’s escape into her imagination and her adventures whenever things become unbearable in the real world. However, the more she escapes to her daydreams, the more hostile the world becomes. She soon realizes that escaping isn’t as easy as before. Inescapable Escapism also has a general lesson to share. It will make you re-evaluate how you are living your life, especially daydreamers.
Inescapable Escapism is thrilling! The story is flawless, given that anything is possible in one’s mind. There is also another reason as to why Inescapable Escapism is a gem itself: It’s relatable. Many of us are stuck in a less desirable reality and often look for other avenues to escape it. For others who don’t have resources (like me, when I was a kid up until I was a teen), they turn to their imagination. The plot was easy to digest in that way. Alexa Lee has written it so beautifully and with her readers in mind. The same thing can also be said with the pace and action of the novel. It was in sync. You could tell the events weren’t rushed and at the same time, they were presented to readers all at the right time and spread out evenly. Lastly, the characters were realistic. Grace was the epitome of the depressed tween who most of us were at that point in our lives. Alexa Lee’s book is the wake-up call that we all needed. This novel will not disappoint readers.
