The X-mas Files by Richard Antall is a fantastical take on events from the biblical era. When a computer genius hacks his way through the Deep Web, he stumbles upon some highly classified documents belonging to Hell's propaganda department. Blinded by the lure of unlimited power and crypto riches, he promptly sells his soul to the devil. However, his mother's death causes him to repent his actions, forcing him to leak the documents before his untimely death. The dossier finds its way to a pastor, who discovers a report on the events circulating the invasion of Nazareth by Hell's demons. As the agents of His Satanic Majesty camp near their rivals, an archangel arrives to prophesy the birth of Jesus to a graceful young girl.
Author Richard Antall's contemporary rendition of biblical events has a unique premise. He tells the story through the perspective of Hell's agents. Initially, the narrative style is unorthodox, but it becomes easier to immerse yourself as the plot progresses. I was pleasantly surprised by the humor sprinkled throughout the pages and felt it made the story all the more engaging and entertaining to read. The characters have well-developed arcs, but primarily they are used as tools to move the plot forward and explore the themes of the narrative. Although the story contains many biblical references, I think even non-Christian readers will find plenty to enjoy. If you're intrigued by the premise of a unique take on biblical events, I recommend The X-mas Files.
