Theodore, The Sloth Who Wants to Race by Dr. Sam and J.L. McCreedy is a children's book about Theodore the Sloth who dreams of winning a race. Every inch of him yearns for the rush of competition, the joy of winning, and the crowd's cheers. There's just one problem: sloths are the slowest champions of the forest. Hence he is constantly mocked by the other animals. Can Theodore defy his slow-and-steady stereotype and become a racing legend? This cute, two-toed sloth is about to embark on a hilarious, rhyming adventure packed with determination, grit, and maybe even a few new friends.
Theodore, The Sloth Who Wants to Race highlights several themes such as determination, grit, friendship, and challenging stereotypes. I liked the plot as it revolves around the simple lives of animals but conveys great life lessons. The attention to detail in the illustrations by J.L. McCreedy is absolutely stunning. The harmony between flora and fauna is beautifully shown. The characters are strong and have a brave spirit. Theodore has a strong desire to achieve something that the world says is impossible. But his smaller sloth friend supports him in every possible way. Theodore faces multiple challenges but doesn't give up, which taught me the importance of determination. The inclusion of facts about sloths piqued my curiosity and added another layer to the book. I also enjoyed playing the little game of Kingdom at the end. I enjoyed the plot, characters, and illustrations.
