I don't read many non-fiction books, but when I do, they have to be REALLY awesome sounding. I am also a big history lover, on top of being from North Carolina, so I jumped on the chance to review Touring The Carolina's Civil War Sites. I was most pleased with the results!

One of the sites that is mentioned in this book is Bentonville. I am 30 minutes or so from this site, and my kids, parents and I LOVE to go here! It has a unique feel to the atmosphere (not quite haunted, but not quite unhaunted, either). This was the last big battle area for the war, and it's truly a magnificent place to tour.

Filled with detailed events, sites and tours, this book also includes maps and photos of the areas. You can get a feel of what to expect just by browsing through it. Johnson's writing style is specific and highly informative, making this a fantastic guide to the many, many sites throughout North and South Carolina.

This is a book that I would highly recommend to not only travelers and history buffs, but families looking for fun and informative places to take their children. Many of the places have museums, trails, or shops that the children can enjoy with walking, looking and purchasing their own piece of history through replicas.

Many thanks to Mr. Johnson for his thorough research and fantastic, richly detailed sites for us Civil War buffs!
