Transplanted by Christine Alexanians is a rich novel that allows you to invest yourself in someone else’s life and drama. The novel revolves around Nastia, a maid in the house of the aristocrats. Her life is turned upside down when the people she works for have to leave because of the Bolshevik revolution. Upon reaching her village, she learns of the hardships that have befallen her family and friends. During this time of despair, she meets Aliosha, a merchant with a big heart who helps her out in a situation that was bound to cripple her emotionally.

Soon the two are married and have a son, and they move to the opposite side of Russia where they have a daughter. Just when she has almost settled into her new life, her husband comes bearing bad news that his father has passed away and they must go back to his homeland: Persia. With the shock of her husband’s true origin and the complications of living in a foreign country, Nastia must make a decision. Can she forsake her husband and live where life is familiar? Or should she take a leap of faith and follow her husband to Persia and try something she never thought she would?

Inspiring: this is the first word that comes to my mind when I think about describing this novel. Christine Alexanians did a wonderful job in creating such a likeable character. Nastia is such a strong woman. She represents millions of women across the world who have to face the same dilemma. The novel was fast paced and well detailed without being boring. A good novel worth reading again. Five stars!
