While trying to get his bearings after a vehicular collision, Damien Winters finds himself facing what resembles a giant, eyeless mountain lion launching itself like a lunatic linebacker at him. Think of Leonardo DiCaprio’s bear attack in The Revenant, and you get an idea of how Winters survives the ordeal. But what attacked him is no ordinary beast. It was a sphinx—alien creatures that have existed even before humans walked the earth and possess the ability to replicate humans. Their objective: to rectify God’s nefarious and foolhardy mistake of creating us to bring back a realm that thrives in serenity and tranquility. In Triangle Black by Joseph Miguel, a quiet town in Colorado soon becomes infested with these harrowing entities. With the help of his friend Kipper Wells, Damien does everything in his power for them to stay alive and save those that he can.

Triangle Black is a superb example of the creature feature genre in horror films. The sphinxes are agile and move with incredible speed. And from how they are described, they are morphologically designed to wipe us all out in just a matter of days. Miguel supplies his story with that typical tradition of using an ordinary and flawed action hero whose high level of survival instinct pushes him to die fighting. The most interesting aspect of the novel is the moral choices that Winters must decide upon. The story has a strong element of tragedy as people that Winters knows on a first-name basis perish from the onslaught and some are even used as replicate vessels. This novel is a must-read because it is well-written and gives a unique and unexpected resolution. If you are a horror fan, you will love it. It will grab you by the throat and consume you.

Triangle Black: A Novel by Joseph Miguel is the face of new horror. Lead character Damien is a healthcare worker with some baggage, and when he leaves his hospital he comes face-to-face with an ancient evil. He does have a pistol, and he does have a good friend, along with his good sense, and these are the things he has to use in order to survive. If he is to leave his small town of Heatherton in one piece as it disintegrates around him, he has tough choices to make and takes on the legendary power of the Sphinx. Meanwhile, the woman he loves is in a cabin on the other side of town, bracing for the threat, but can he save her? Damien is a man battling himself as well as the invasion, and facing dilemmas no one should have to.

Miguel writes with echoes of classic horror, but with a fresh take. There are universal and human themes and questions radiating within the plot and the characters, but they aren't heavy-handed; just well-balanced and expertly executed. I like the sense of moody atmosphere Miguel creates for us, and the non-stop plot that keeps on giving. There are a lot of thought-provoking scenes and conversations, and you'll find yourself completely wrapped up in what's going on. This is good, intelligent writing with depth and layers. The book trailer will grab your attention too, as will the William Blake-ish poem at the end. Triangle Black: A Novel by Joseph Miguel is a book that will help dissatisfied horror fans return to the classic genre they love.

"Finally, a spectacular creative novel debut."

Triangle Black's debut holds a mysterious title, has an exceptional book cover, and is a spectacular creative written story. What else can you ask for in a debut novel?

It's about time I have the wonderful privilege of getting the opportunity to boast about yet another horror classic read. An author and lover of horror myself, I am irrevocably glad to say: "Finally a spectacular creative novel debut."

A nerve-racking portrayal of crude humankind facing inevitable supremacy, Damien Winters is leaving the medical clinic after a strenuous move, when he abruptly clashes with an old, unspeakable malevolence.

Outfitted with a gun, a confided-in companion, and his intellect, Damien needs to depend on his solidarity and flexibility to endure. If he is to escape Heatherton alive, he will settle on troublesome choices in the excursion, to go up against the early stage force of the Sphinx.

I particularly savored the author's movie book trailer at the commencement. And even the poem, penned at the end of the work. That composition in itself is a surpassing little read. I would fancy seeing more of them, perhaps in Miguel's next book print. This would be a delightful continuous little gift, following the conclusion of each of his subsequent books.

I fundamentally deem anyone intrigued by this kind of mysterious horror, gets the book. I am very pleased with my acquisition and know you also will relish the novel. And do make sure you watch the movie clip. Enjoy!

Dystopian and horror for the win!

You know it’s a great read when as a mother of three children, you are staying up way past your bedtime because you can’t stop reading!
What a ride! I am a fan of both dystopian and horror genres and Miguel did not disappoint. I’m an avid reader and I read all kinds of books, but one thing I especially appreciate is a fast paced experience. To the point and right to the action is a writing style I enjoy and Triangle Black fit the bill! In addition, the relevance to what is going on in society today could easily be thread in the novel and made this book particularly engaging. A must read and no question 5 stars!

A must-read debut!

We are told never to judge a book by its cover, however, we often shop with our eyes. In this instance I was not disappointed by my curiosity.

While horror is not usually my first choice of reading genre, I found myself on the edge of my seat, and up late at night anticipating what would come next.

Clearly well-written, with careful attention to detail this book is a debut novel to be proud of, and a must-have for fans of the genre.

This was an excellent story! I was hooked from the first chapter. It’s an apocalyptic thriller that keeps you turning the pages! The main character Damien faces an evil species of monsters intent on destroying humanity. It’s a fast-paced action thriller written with incredible descriptions. I could totally picture each scene and character in my mind. There was also a deeper meaning(s) throughout the entire book of today’s societal issues. I found that aspect very interesting for this type of genre and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend this book and would read it again!
